Dear DPS Community,

At their meeting last night, the DPS Board of Education approved Resolution 5241, seeking a $44 million increase in the mill levy in the City and County of Denver. A mill levy override (MLO) is an increase of the previous voter-approved tax rate (mill levy). Due to the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), taxing districts in Colorado are required to ask voters about any increases that affect property taxes. Funding from property taxes can be used for teacher salaries, academic programming, classroom supplies, safety and more.

The initiative will be placed on November 2026 election ballots. If passed by voters, the estimated annual impact for a homeowner in Denver is $11.50 for every $100,000 of home value (for example, if a home is worth $624,800, the median home value in Denver, this means an annual increase of approximately $72 or $6 per month).

Access the MLO slide deck that was presented at last night’s board meeting for more information. Learn more on the MLO website.

More information about the ballot initiative will be shared soon.
