At Denver Public Schools, school nurses do far more than care for students’ physical health — they help create safe, supportive communities where students can thrive. At East High School, Nurse Fun exemplifies that mission every day.
Understanding that student challenges can extend beyond health, Nurse Fun has built and maintained partnerships with organizations like Urban Peak and Angel Packs to connect students and families with essential local resources and support systems.
“Knowing I can help students feel well, safe and ready to learn gives my work a sense of meaning that’s very immediate and very real,” he said.
Nurse Fun’s dedication reflects the core values of DPS Nursing Services and the belief that every student deserves to feel supported and seen.
“The mission to promote health, safety and equity guides everything I do. To me, it means recognizing that every student’s situation is different and responding with empathy and intention, he said.
“It’s about advocating for those who might be overlooked and making sure all students have the support they need. Ultimately, it’s about showing up so each student feels valued, capable and knows someone is in their corner,” he said.
