Dear DPS Community,

This March, I invite you to join me in celebrating and honoring Women’s History Month. Not just for the extraordinary achievements, resilience and lasting impact of women across the world, but also right here in our DPS community.

In the early days of education, women fought for a place in the classroom as educators and students, but women have always been at the forefront of driving change in our schools and communities. They are educators who forged new trails and passionate champions of equity and inclusion. Today, women make up the majority of public school teachers and principals. In fact, 72.4% of our Team DPS are women.

At the same time, we must acknowledge the continuing challenges and inequities women face in the workplace, especially women of color. Pay differences and barriers to advancement still exist. As a public school district where 39.1% of staff are women of color, it is critical that we remain steadfast in our commitment to dismantling systemic inequities. We need to continue to foster an environment where all students and staff members, regardless of gender or background, can thrive and succeed.

This Women’s History Month, let us amplify the voices of DPS women, uplift their stories and honor their contributions to our schools. Stay tuned to the DPS social media pages and Our DPS Weekly for Women’s History Month features of students and staff throughout March.

We deeply appreciate your continued dedication and commitment to our scholars’ continual growth.

In collaboration,

Dr. Alex Marrero
Superintendent
