When Easton first walked through the doors of Columbine Elementary, he was shy and reserved, still finding his footing in the new environment. But with the nurturing support of his teachers and the friendships he formed with his classmates, something beautiful began to unfold. Over time, Easton discovered his passion, not just for learning, but for connecting with others and embracing each new experience with his whole heart.
Easton's passion shines through in everything he does at school. As his teacher Sarah Cullen shares, "Easton shows passion through the care he brings to all that he does. Whether that be practicing letters, expanding his imagination in dramatic play, creating with blocks, or forming close friendships, Easton is passionate and present."
What truly sets Easton apart is his passionate dedication to caring for others. He's always the first to help a friend who has fallen, comfort someone who's upset, or check in throughout the day to see how his peers are doing. Easton demonstrates passion in its purest form: a genuine, heartfelt commitment to making those around him feel valued. It's this wholehearted approach to learning and growing that makes Easton such a wonderful example for those around him!
Q&A with Sarah Cullen, Easton’s Teacher
How does Easton show his excitement or love for being at school each day?
Easton is always smiling and excited to be around his friends. From his joyful laughs on the playground to the inquisitive questions he asks to learn more, Easton knows he belongs here and loves being part of this community.
How have you seen Easton grow since the beginning of the school year?
Easton has always been curious, thoughtful and determined. I have seen his comfort grow substantially since the start of the year, which has led to increased independence and blossoming friendships. Easton is eager to come to school and fully engage with every lesson and activity. He is confident in who he is and shares that self-love with those around him.
Can you share a moment when Easton’s kindness or empathy really stood out to you?
Developmentally, empathy can be a very abstract concept to internalize at this age. Not for Easton. Easton cares for everyone with a genuine heart. He shows patience, authenticity and warmth to all students. A moment that stands out to me was when a student was sad to leave their family in the morning. Easton gently swooped in to express his love and joy to see that student, which helped them feel the support they needed to start their day.
What does it mean to you to be a passionate educator?
I believe that being a passionate educator means fostering a safe, inclusive and connected community where every student thrives. It means being a life-long learner by observing, adapting and enhancing each educational experience. I care deeply about this work and know that if I lead by example with intention and integrity, students will observe these ways of being and mirror them as they learn and grow.
