As a crucial member of our DPS community, your input is vital in helping us plan for the future! We are currently building school year calendars for 2027-28 and 2028-29 and are seeking your feedback to learn how our calendars can best fit your needs as a guardian.
When developing school-year calendars, the district is responsible for ensuring calendars meet the following:
Compliance with all state instructional hour requirements and contractual obligations, which include 1,080 hours of instruction, 186 educator days, 174.5 student contact days and 10.5 days of planning and development.
Instructional focus to maximize uninterrupted learning time.
School breaks to balance the mental health and wellness needs of our students and staff with community interests and national observances.
Staff development must include dedicated professional development time to strengthen educator effectiveness (10.5 professional learning days).
Community feedback is sought from staff, families, and students on flexible pieces of the calendar.
The calendar survey will ask questions that align to all of the above criteria while also giving you the opportunity to provide targeted feedback on flexible pieces of the calendars. Please take 5-7 minutes to complete the family survey and encourage your child to complete the student survey that was emailed to them by Friday, Feb. 6.
