DENVER - Denver Public Schools notified families of the results from Round 1 of SchoolChoice on March 20, 2024. DPS used a new technology platform this year that simplified the process for families and improved data quality and security. One of those improvements was the Intent to Enroll (ITE) process, which allowed families to communicate their desire to attend their boundary school (or continue attending their current school) without having to complete a full SchoolChoice application.

This year, 24,684 K-12 students participated in Round 1 of SchoolChoice, with 12,773 students completing a choice application and another 11,911 students submitting their ITE. This represents an increase of 15% over last year’s participation in Round 1.

Each year the District analyzes the percentage of rising kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students residing in Denver that match with their top choice schools after the Round 1 lottery to better understand family preferences; for students in these transition grades who completed a choice application in 2024, 81% were assigned their No. 1 choice, and 90% received their No. 1 or No. 2 choice school. All students who submitted an ITE are, by definition, guaranteed a seat at their boundary school or to continue at their current school. The combination of these two groups means roughly 90% of students in transition grades will be able to attend their top choice school.

Round 2 opens on April 10 and continues through Aug. 30. If you need any assistance in getting your student enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, please contact our Choice Hotline at 720-423-3493.
