newsletter for april

Dear Escalante-Biggs Academy Families,

Happy April! I hope this message finds you well. As we move into spring, we have some exciting

updates and important events to share with our wonderful community.

First, we want to inform you that we have moved the STEAM Night event from March 20 to

April 17. This rescheduling is due to the expectation of a high number of staff members being

absent as the Colorado Education Association is organizing a rally at the state capitol to

advocate against proposed cuts to state education funding. We appreciate your understanding

and look forward to seeing you at our STEAM Night in April instead, where there will be fun and

educational activities to enjoy together as a community.

In our ECE classrooms, students will be learning about community helpers. This is a great

opportunity for parents to teach the class about the work they do. If you are interested in

getting involved, please talk to your child's teacher for more details.

In Kindergarten, we will be focusing on taking care of the earth and weather/seasons. Students

will explore how we can protect our planet and learn about different types of weather and the

seasons of the year. We are excited to see their curiosity and creativity blossom during this

unit!

We would also like to highlight that the week of April 21 is National Volunteer Appreciation Week. We want to give a special shout-out to our community members who have been volunteering regularly: Noemi Muñoz (123), Maria Gutierrez (126), Michelle Rojas (109), Ahtziri Palacios (109, 112), Jennifer Coria (109, 112), Flor Villa (114), Miriam Campas (126), Lima Khpalwak (113), Martha Venzor (115), Rocio Jurado (121) and many others who have come to volunteer in classrooms for special events and field trips. Thank you for your commitment and support!

On April 22, we will celebrate Earth Day with a fun bingo competition between classes. The class that gets a "bingo" first will win a popsicle party. We are thrilled to engage our students in this event and teach them about the importance of caring for our planet! Additionally, on April 25, we will celebrate The Day of the Child. This is a fun day for all our kids, and we encourage families to get involved as volunteers. Please check with your child's teacher for details on how you can participate.

Finally, we want to share that we are starting to plan for the 2025-2026 school year. We have heard your feedback, and instead of having monthly professional development days in addition to the district professional development days, we will only have 4 professional development days. This will support our teachers in their continued growth in practice and align with the science of reading, as well as in planning and differentiating instruction. We will also send a survey to you soon to gather more specific feedback.

We hope you have a wonderful spring break. We will return on April 2, and we are looking forward to continuing our learning journey together.

With gratitude,

Marta Ródenas
