The Denver Public Schools (DPS) Department of Climate and Safety (DoCS) is launching its first-ever Student Safety Summit this Tuesday, April 7. This landmark event marks the beginning of a district-wide initiative aimed at fostering deeper connections between families, students, and community partners to ensure a safer learning environment for all.

The inaugural event at North High School is just the start; it kicks off a comprehensive six-part series, with one summit scheduled for each of the DPS safety districts through early May.

Addressing Today’s Challenges

The first summit will dive directly into one of the most pressing issues facing youth today: the dangers of fentanyl and counterfeit pills. To provide expert insight and personal perspective, the event will feature a spokesperson from The Tucker Project, an organization dedicated to fentanyl risk awareness.

An Interactive Experience

Moving beyond standard lectures, the summit offers families a hands-on look at the tools and personnel keeping their children safe. Attendees can expect:

  • Demonstrations featuring the district’s specialized gun-sniffing dogs.

  • On-site technology showcases, including a weapons detection unit.

  • Community interaction opportunities with DPS DoCS representatives and safety experts.
