Okay, we promise—this is the last Olympic relay reference… but we saved the best for last! 🥇 It takes more than one runner to win a relay; it takes trust, timing, and a strong anchor. That’s exactly how our PTA works—and our President is that anchor.
With elections for the 2026–27 school year approaching, we’re inviting new parents to step up and help lead our community. Whether you’ve been cheering from the sidelines or quietly wondering how to get involved, this is your chance to make a real difference.

🏃♀️ Passing the Baton: PTA President
Currently run by:
Josh Slater (5th grade parent)
What I love about this role:
It’s such a fun way to stay connected, meet great people, and be part of what’s happening at our school. The community piece is my favorite—bringing families together, planning events, and creating more ways for everyone to feel involved. It doesn’t feel like “work” when you’re surrounded by awesome parents and staff who care. It’s just a really rewarding—and fun—way to give back and be part of something bigger for our kids.
Something that might surprise you about this role:
I didn’t have any real expectations of the role when I took it, so nothing truly surprised me about being President. I just had a desire to get involved. That said, one thing that continues to amaze me about education in general is the sheer number of acronyms we use every day 🤯—it’s like learning a whole new language!
What the next runner should know:
You need absolutely zero experience—just a willingness to get involved and help out. This position was great for me because it’s very social and collaborative. I had excellent support from the PTA members, which made stepping in as President easy and enjoyable, even with no prior experience. It’s a role where your energy and enthusiasm make a real difference.
Baton promise:
Even though I’m leaving Brown with my two youngest are continuing Kindergarten at Centennial, I still maintain a connection to the school through my volunteer work with Food for Thought Denver. I’m happy to answer questions, offer advice, and support anyone stepping into this role to help them feel confident and prepared.
Favorite PTA related activity or school event:
Thanksgiving Lunch! I also love the Fall Festival, especially the chili cook-off. It must be the former chef in me – there’s just something about seeing families, teachers, and staff come together over food, fun, and friendly competition that really captures the spirit of our school community.
Lightning Round: If this role were an Olympic event, what would it be—and why?
Relay anchor—bringing the team home by coordinating, cheerleading, supporting, and making sure everyone crosses the finish line together. It’s about teamwork, timing, and keeping the energy positive from start to finish.
Curious?
This is a required PTA position that keeps our school running and connected. If you want to help families feel included, support school events, and be at the center of our community, this is your lane.
Could that brave parent be you? Step up and join the fun!

P.S. Looking at You BIA Teachers
A Note for Teachers: You already do so much for our students AND please know teachers are welcome to take on PTA leadership roles if a position aligns with your interests and availability. Your perspective, ideas, and connection to students and families are incredibly valuable and can help guide and deepen the impact our PTA’s work. No expectations here, but we would always love to have our teachers get involved in any role where you feel you can contribute and make a difference.
