Congratulations Shoemaker Teacher Annie Holyfield & Hamilton Teacher Lesley Meyer!

Joe Shoemaker Elementary kindergarten and first-grade teacher Annie Holyfield earned the 2018 Klingenstein Teacher Award from national non-profit EL Education.

Ms. Holyfield is a kindergarten and first-grade teacher at Joe Shoemaker School. On Nov. 11, Holyfield accepted the honor and shared inspiring words with an audience of more than 1,200 educators at the EL Education 2018 National Conference in Philadelphia.

“Many people see five-, six, and seven-year-olds as cute and innocent, incapable of having a real impact in the world, almost powerless, until they are more mature, knowledgeable, older. I am here today to challenge that belief. I am here to tell you that even little kids are capable of meaningful contributions and able to make the world a better place.”

Hamilton Middle School sixth-grade social studies teacher Lesley Meyer was recognized as the University of Colorado-Denver National History Day Colorado Teacher of the Year!

National History Day in Colorado is a social studies and literacy program that equips students in elementary, middle and high school with the skills to succeed in college and beyond.

Ms. Meyer has taught at Hamilton for more than 22 years.

Congratulations to two of DPS’ incredible educators!
