Swigert International was selected as one of five Colorado schools that were named National Blue Ribbon Schools this year. National Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate that all students can achieve at high levels. The award is based on a school’s overall academic excellence or marked progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Swigert’s performance category is “Exemplary High Performing.”

All schools are honored in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores and subgroup scores on state assessments or nationally normed tests, as well as graduation rates:

  • “Exemplary High Performing,” in which schools are recognized as high performing, measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
  • “Exemplary Improving,” in which schools that have at least 40% of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds demonstrate the most progress in improving student achievement levels, measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests.

Located in Near Northeast Denver, Swigert is an International Baccalaureate school serving students in ECE through fifth grade.

Swigert received this honor along with 300 public and 49 private schools nationwide. In its 36-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has awarded thousands of outstanding schools. On Nov. 7-8, the U.S. Department of Education will celebrate with the honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC.

“I am extremely proud of the success of these schools and the hard work being done by their staff, students and families,” said Colorado Education Commissioner Katy Anthes. “This award recognizes their dedication, compassion, and commitment to making sure every child has an opportunity to succeed.”
