Superintendent: Supreme Court Ruling Right for Kids

Mar. 12, 2018

On March 12, the Colorado Supreme Court issued a ruling upholding the Denver Public Schools’ decision to end the forced placement of teachers. DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg issued the following statement:

“We welcome the unanimous decision by the Colorado Supreme Court upholding the legislature’s decision to end the practice of forced placement of teachers into schools where they do not wish to teach or where the school has not offered them teaching positions. Forced placement was wrong: wrong for students, wrong for teachers, and wrong for schools, and it is good that practice will not come back. The Supreme Court’s decision is especially important for our lower-income schools which, under the former law, received a disproportionate share of forced-placement teachers.”
