Event Date: March 14, 2018
On March 14th, a nation-wide event called National School Walkout will be taking place. As a school, we will be participating in this event by hosting a day of age-appropriate workshops and activities that will empower our scholars to use their voice in a positive, productive way and promote ongoing awareness about bullying, and safety. Several of these activities will be facilitated by DPS staff from district departments including Educational Technology and Family and Community Engagements (FACE). These workshops are designed to educate and empower our scholars. This day will not focus on taking a political stance, but will give students the opportunity to form their own ideas and options, while respecting diverse perspectives of others. As a community, we realize the opportunity to educate and empower students during the National School Walkout on March 14th. A piece of our day will include a 17 minute, staff and student led walkout. This walkout will happen at approximately 10 a.m., and will last 17 minutes to honor the 17 who died. The overarching purpose of this time will be for our students and our community to ask our governing leaders to take action on what impacts our students and our community. We encourage families to join us on this day and to learn alongside our scholars.
