In our homes, workplaces and schools, there is a universal desire to belong. Yet for some students in Denver Public Schools, that belonging has felt absent at school. It’s motivated a courageous group of young adults – all DPS students – to meet with educators this school year as part of YAALL, or Young African-American and Latinx Leaders. At our Culture, Equity and Leadership Team professional development classes, in workshops and at a recent ED Talk, the students have shared detailed instances of bias. They have a simple mission: to ensure no student faces the same hurt again. Watch this in-depth DPS Features story to hear their experiences.
