The DPS SchoolChoice season for the 2020-21 school year is now open. You can access the online application using a cellphone, tablet or computer. We recommend signing in using your Parent Portal username and password.

SchoolChoice allows you to apply to virtually any school in DPS; simply rank your top school preferences for next year – up to 12 – and submit the application by Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. There’s no advantage to applying early – just submit your application by the deadline.

A great way to get ready for SchoolChoice is by attending one of DPS’ five school expos Jan. 21-23. You can meet with schools in your area, learn more about the Choice process – even get help filling out your application.

Once you’ve submitted the application and the SchoolChoice window closes, we will spend a few weeks running a computer program that matches your student to a school based on your school preferences, as well as school admission priorities and available space. We will then send out placement notifications by late March. Check out a SchoolChoice FAQ for more information.

There also are resources for families who are still researching their school options, including the annual Great Schools Enrollment Guides, and the online, mobile-friendly School Finder. Both are available at The best way for families to find their best-fit school is to visit schools in person and talk to leaders and staff.

Incoming preschool students must participate in SchoolChoice on a yearly basis; due to space limitations, enrollment in a preschool program is not guaranteed. If your student is currently in kindergarten through 11th grade and will be staying at his or her current school for 2020-21, you do not have to fill out a SchoolChoice application.
