Celebrate Career and College Success this October! During this month we will highlight inspiring student stories, graduation resources and virtual career and college events that will empower all of our students to take charge of their own education.

Throughout our district, students are provided with opportunities to plan for their futures while getting a headstart on paths toward meaningful careers and post-secondary education. These opportunities include Advanced Placement courses, Career Development through work-based learning, Career and Technical Education, Concurrent Enrollment and the Seal of Biliteracy.

We’re also working to eliminate inequities in access to higher education and career. Today in DPS, more Latinx and African-American graduates are enrolling in college and earning college credits for free while in high school. The on-time graduation rate among African-American students has increased from 62.4% in 2014 to 68.3% in 2019, and over that same time the graduation rate for Latinx students has risen from 58.2% to 68%.

In 2019, DPS posted the district’s highest on-time graduation rate yet — it grew by more than 300 students over last year’s graduating class. According to data released by the Colorado Department of Education, DPS’s on-time graduation rate, or the percentage of students who graduate in four years, climbed from 70.2% in 2018 to 70.9%. Our graduation numbers have been on the rise for more than a decade — up from just 39% in 2007.

Celebrate Career and College Success during the month of October by sharing your own career and college plans with our hashtag, #MyPlanDPS.
