Medical Careers (Certified Nursing Assistant)

Grades: 10th-12th ***must be 16 by January 1 of the year they are enrolled for clinicals****

Description: 

Medical Careers explored through body systems, medical terminology, Basic First Aid, CPR with an emphasis on Nurse Assistant skills and knowledge for certification and work in health care settings. 

Specific Success Criteria

  • Students must maintain a 92% attendance in order to sit for the certification exam.

  • Prerequisite: Previous Medical class required (Please see the DPS CTE course catalog under Med Connect for qualifying courses)

  • Students must be willing and have the time to complete Clinical hours and Practicum hours associated with the course. 

  • Students will be required to get a background check during the program prior to participating in Clinicals and the certification exam. 

  • Students will be required to have all of the up to date immunizations as required by their Practicum and Clinical sites, this can include:

    • TB Test (clearance)

    • Flu and COVID Vaccinations

    • Other general vaccinations

  • Drug and alcohol screening may be required at clinical and or practicum sites as directed by the industry partner.

  • Students will be required to sit for both the written and skills based exams associated with the CNA Certification exam, prior to completion of the course. 

Program Length: Two Semesters

Program Times: 

  • AM: 8:20-10:35 AM

  • PM: 1:15-3:30 PM

Industry Certification: CNA License

  • If state CNA testing is not complete until after graduation, students must pass in house practice exams prior to completion of last semester in this pathway.

Capstone completion: Must complete both semesters and pass in house or CNA state testing.
