Grades: 10-12th (must be 16 prior to taking NASM certification in year two)

Description: 

In this pathway, students have the ability to achieve multiple certificates. In the Fitness and Health courses, students will explore physical fitness techniques and skills required to become fitness trainers for groups or individuals. In addition, nutrition and health are also studied for students to obtain the beginning level certification for nutrition or CPT through CCD.

Specific Success Criteria

  • Students will be enrolled in the CE credit associated with the two CCD Fitness Certifications upon enrollment in the class. 

  • Students must turn 16 within the year they take the program to get certified.

  • Students will be willing to engage in group fitness tasks, and independent work associated with the course. 

  • Students will be willing to learn about Anatomy and Physiology principals, including muscle identification, bone identification, ligament identification and other. 

  • Students will engage in creating fitness plans for special populations. 

  • Students will be allowed to engage in various NASM certification courses which are pre purchased in September for the entire academic year. 

  • Students must sit for at least one certification exam prior to leaving the program. 

Program Length: Four Semesters

  • AM: 8:20-10:35 AM

  • PM: 1:15-3:30 PM

Industry Certification: NASM Certified Personal Trainer, or NASM Corrective exercise Specialist

  • NASM has age requirements and cannot be obtained until senior year.

Capstone Completion: 

Capstone requires NASM industry certificate and takes 4 semesters minimum. (must take class for two years to sit for industry examinations)

  • Secondary cert in Food, Nutrition, and Wellness is included for Capstone, however the secondary cert in Fitness is not eligible for Capstone, but is a beginning level certification through CCD that builds towards an AAS degree with articulation to Metropolitan State University in Exercise Science.
