Free literacy supports, financial coaching and workforce training available to families in Far Northeast Denver
Denver – The newest Mile High United Way Center for Family Opportunity, operated by Denver Public Schools (DPS) at McGlone Academy’s campus, is ready to serve members of the Montbello community. In partnership with the City of Denver’s Office of Economic Development, the Center for Family Opportunity (CFO) will provide free English-language and GED classes, as well as help with tax preparation, financial coaching, legal assistance, utility assistance, veteran services and more to all community members regardless of age or whether they have a child in a DPS school.
The CFO at McGlone is the second center to open within the district, following the success of the first location at College View Elementary in Southwest Denver, which has enrolled over 1,200 participants since it opened in 2014. The new center in Far Northeast Denver will also have a long-term, lasting impact on the far northeast community by giving families the tools to build a solid foundation for success through early learning and literacy supports.
A grand opening ceremony will be held for the CFO at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 with remarks from Superintendent Tom Boasberg, chief of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Tameka Brigham and McGlone Academy principal Sara Gips. There will be an open house that includes refreshments, face painting, music, family literacy activities and group tours.
