Minds Matter Denver Surprises Students with Laptops

Oct. 5, 2017

Minds Matter Denver is College Prep Mentor Program that boasts a 100% high school graduation and 100% matriculation to college for its mentees. Each mentee has 2 mentors that will serve them for 3 years until they graduate high school and most continue to provide support after graduation. Last year DMLK had 6 students who were accepted into Minds Matter Denver. There are some great mentors. For example, one of our students has a husband/wife team. The husband is a Harvard Graduate who is an investment banker and his wife is a UNC graduate who has her own travel and lifestyle blog. Minds Matter previously only recruited from DPS’ traditional high schools After much pleading and a promise to provide transportation to their meetings at West High School twice a month, they agree to add DMLK to the fold prior to their expansion plans in the next 1-2 years. As it turns out DMLK had 6 of 26 students selected from across DPS and yesterday, at their first mentor meeting, which required their parents to be present, they all received laptops and laptop bags. This was a complete surprise to our students! DMLK is humbled and thankful for this gesture in support of our students; we look forward to our continued partnership with Minds Matter moving forward.
