The new Denver Public Schools (DPS) chief of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) has a personal connection to the job. Georgia Duran grew up in the city, attended the public schools, and watched as her parents — who, like many current DPS parents, were native Spanish speakers — sometimes struggle to speak up on behalf of their children’s education, though they valued it highly.

Duran said she wants to ensure all families and community members have a voice. After serving as chief communications officer for Aurora Public Schools for more than a decade, she now sits at the helm of the dynamic DPS FACE team.
