Event Date: January 20, 2017
Join EDUCA Radio on 1090-AM from 5 to 6 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, for an English broadcast to learn about the refugee community in Denver and Denver Public Schools (DPS).
EDUCA Radio will visit with Joe Horther, integration partnerships coordinator with the Colorado Refugee Services Program, to discuss the challenges that the refugee community faces as they integrate into life in the United States.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), every year millions of families flee their native countries to find safety and stability. Few people fully realize the hardships refugee families face once they’ve landed in a new country with very little resources. Over the past couple decades, Denver has grown into a community for refugees of many nationalities. Several organizations in the city offer assistance to refugees, and provide families with essentials and services such as clothing, furniture and English classes. Often times, former refugees will give back to their communities by assisting new immigrants as they arrive, and volunteering with organizations that help with resettlement.
Tune in to EDUCA Radio 1090-AM and join the conversation by sending questions or comments via text message to 720-961-3775, or post on their Facebook page. Participants will qualify to win Animal World: A Magical Coloring Journey Through the Paintings of Arturo Garcia.
