Event Date: December 09, 2016
Join EDUCA Radio from 5 to 6 p.m. on 1090-AM this Friday, Dec. 9, for a special English broadcast to learn about the Substance Use Prevention program in Denver Public Schools (DPS). EDUCA Radio will speak with Michel Holien, substance use prevention supervisor in DPS, to discuss ways to prevent substance use and ways to help young people understand the potential risks of using substances.
Drug addiction is a complex, and often chronic, brain disease. It is characterized by drug craving, seeking and use that can persist even in the face of devastating life consequences. Addiction results largely from brain changes that stem from prolonged drug use. Personal changes involve multiple brain circuits, including those responsible for governing self-control and other behaviors. Drug addiction is treatable, often with medications for some addictions combined with behavioral therapies.
The Substance Use Prevention program serves both middle and high school students in several DPS schools. To learn more and to get involved, visit denverrap.org/denverrap-at-dps.
