Event Date: March 24, 2017
Denver Public Schools’ vision that Every Child Succeeds starts with the belief that all students, from the very first day they walk into a DPS school, can achieve at the highest levels and cross the graduation stage ready for college, careers and life.
To help better prepare DPS students for postsecondary success, the Office of College and Career Readiness (OCCR) is hosting the annual Ninth Grade College Expo March 24 at the Auraria Campus. Designed to expose students to college at a younger age, the expo offers an exciting day of college exploration highlighting signature programs. Ninth graders will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff and students and visualize college campus life.
Because of the unique design of the Auraria Campus, the expo gives students the opportunity to learn about three institutions of higher education at the one-day event: Metropolitan State College of Denver, University of Colorado Denver and Community College of Denver.
One of the five goals in DPS’ strategic plan, the Denver Plan 2020, is to ensure students graduate from high school college-and-career-ready. The expo supports Individual Academic and Career Plan (ICAP) development, the personalized career and academic planning tool that evaluates all aspects of a student’s path to college and career, as students are able to explore possibilities and make connections between coursework to their future college and career aspirations.
