DPS Shakespeare Festival: Important Update

Mar. 18, 2020

Hello to all DPS Shakespeare Festival participants,

In response to new recommendations regarding the Covid-19 pandemic from the Centers for Disease Control, the City of Denver has mandated that we cancel or postpone public gatherings through May 11th.  It is with heavy hearts that we have elected to cancel the 2020 DPS Shakespeare Festival. We believe that this decision will help our community at large by slowing the spread of the virus.

We also want to acknowledge the amazing amount of work everyone did in preparation for this year’s festival. A total of 86 schools were preparing almost 400 scenes from half of Shakespeare’s cannon, including Titus Andronicus! We are inspired by your passion and your dedication to creating this unique hands-on learning opportunity for our DPS youth.

Once again, we value our incredible relationship with all of the teachers, students and schools which are the heart of the DPS Shakespeare Festival. Please reach out if you have any questions.  We are also sending everyone our best in this time of unknowns and we look forward to seeing you “back on the boards,” to borrow an Elizabethan term for the stage.

The DPS team is working on ways to celebrate and share the work when everyone is back in the classrooms, including the possibility of a Shakespearean You Tube channel!

Stay well,

The Shakespeare Team
