Employee compensation increase coming Summer ‘22
Denver – Denver Public Schools (DPS) and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) have come to a 3-year financial agreement which ensures that Denver Public Schools will be able to remain competitive in the job market. The new hourly rate for starting bus drivers is $24.00 which represents a 17.5% increase and the rate for starting transportation maintenance employees increased 15% to $20.84.
“We are very happy to be able to come to an agreement with the ATU on a compensation package that is fair for everyone involved,” said Miguel Perretta, Executive Director for Employee and Labor Relations with DPS. “We believe this agreement accomplishes our goal of remaining market competitive and rewarding our employees for their commitment as essential workers.”
The agreement provides market adjustments in June and cost-of-living adjustments in August of each year. All employees who are eligible for a step increase will receive a step increase in each year of the agreement.
The ATU represents driver/operators, mechanics, vehicle maintenance technicians, vehicle service technicians, non-CDL drivers and parts/tool room/counter clerks for Denver Public Schools.
