DPS Launches a New African-American Equity Task Force

Oct. 3, 2016

On Monday, Oct. 3, Allen Smith, the new Denver Public Schools (DPS) associate chief of the Culture, Equity and Leadership Team (CELT) responded to the concerns raised by the qualitative research study performed by Sharon Bailey, Ed.D., a scholar, community leader and former DPS Board of Education member. Dr. Bailey examined student and educator experiences received through the voices of African-American teachers and administrators.

Watch the video on Facebook here, and hear from DPS leaders as they speak to importance of equity and inclusion.

Smith announced a plan that will mitigate the negative findings and leverage the positive factors within the study in order to close the opportunity gap for DPS students and educators. His discussion included the announcement of a new African-American Equity Task Force. To learn more about equity and inclusion efforts in DPS, visit equity.dpsk12.org.
