Denver Public Schools Statement on Allegations of Sexual Harassment
Sep. 4, 2020
Since an initial concern alleging unlawful sexual behavior was raised regarding a high school student, numerous concerns and requests for action have been shared with the district, as well as with individual schools. We want to assure our community that we are aware of these concerns and are acting in response. Although all actions may not be visible due to the importance of confidentiality, we are engaged and working on the process and protections that are included in our policies on discrimination, harassment, and Title IX.
Every single one of us is responsible for making the district a Safe and Welcoming community. Being a Safe and Welcoming community means that we need to create space for people to share concerns with the confidence that they will be addressed. Please do review our options for how you can share concerns and remember that Safe2Tell is always available. It also means that we need to assure that everyone involved, including students accused of misconduct, will be treated fairly and receive due process. To be Safe and Welcoming, we must ensure that there is no retaliation against anyone that raises a concern or anyone that is responding to a concern that has been raised. We will also not tolerate racist statements or behaviors.
We stand with our students and educators in advocating for and ensuring a strong, meaningful, and equitable response to all concerns and we invite you to join in that support. We also invite you to join the district in the conversation around systems and policies that we need to support our students, such as comprehensive health education, in making healthy and safe choices.
We have been made aware of Instagram accounts being mistaken for being DPS affiliated. Please know that these accounts are not official DPS accounts. It is important that we hear from our students and we want to make sure you have the correct information about how to share any concerns.
