Denver Public Schools Foundation Celebrates Announcement of the First of Its Kind, $1 Million Fund for DPS!

Jan. 22, 2020

Join in the excitement as DPS Foundation announces it will be funding up to $1 Million to create #1MillionOpportunities for students.

DENVER – DPS Foundation shares its $1 Million Fund that will create opportunities for DPS students. Our hardworking educators deserve the space and support to foster creative and collaborative solutions, helping our students to graduate ready to lead a successful life. The $1 Million Fund will assist awarded schools in planning and implementing solutions to address challenges, build capacity, and enrich school communities. Funding will support ideas that will advance educator mindsets, grow student mindsets, strengthen family and community mindsets, build the capacity of educators, and more.

We believe in the collective support of the community. Through the accumulation of unrestricted donations from donors who trust us to determine the best use of their donations, this funding opportunity is possible. This fund encompasses what DPS Foundation stands for— together and with the support of our donors, our students and our city will thrive. Whether you give $10, $100, $1,000 and beyond—every single dollar is crucial in making this $1 Million Fund a reality for our schools.

Through this opportunity, DPS Foundation is partnering with Denver Public Schools to combine the financial resources of the Denver community with the expertise and support of the Impact Office of the district.

“This fund is an example of deep partnership—working together with DPS Foundation to ensure that all DPS students are thriving—by design. With equity at the forefront of all that we do, we’re excited about the opportunities this fund creates to see our educators and communities working together to create solutions to help break historical patterns of inequity and drive broader academic success across our schools,” said DPS Superintendent Susana Cordova.

We will be nimble in our approach and offer a process that is systematic yet simple for school communities. The decision of how to use the funds will be made by a selection committee. Members of the community will be invited to apply for this committee and will be selected based on expertise and their commitment to be available to review the grant applications.

“This fund would not be possible without the trust and support of our donor community. We are committed to the tremendous fiduciary responsibility with which our donors have entrusted us to make the best use of their investments. We believe schools understand their needs best and should have the flexibility to fund their own ideas. While we know that $1 million won’t solve for all challenges, we hope to inspire the spirit of growth and knowledge amongst our school community,” said Verónica Figoli, President & CEO of Denver Public Schools Foundation.

Application process and deadlines have been released. More information on how to become part of the selection committee will be available soon. Check back at for details.
