Join DPS’ youngest students as they enter their first year in school
Denver – On Monday, Aug. 20 Denver Public Schools (DPS) will host its first-day-of-school celebration to commemorate the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.
Superintendent Tom Boasberg will kick off the first day of school at Escalante-Biggs Academy to greet DPS’ youngest students and their families. School and district leaders will greet the three- and four-year-old students and their families. This festive first day will also include balloons, music and a few words from Superintendent Boasberg, who will be attending his last “first day celebration.”

Superintendent Boasberg will arrive at 6 a.m. for one-on-ones with media.
At 8:15 a.m., Boasberg will engage with students, families and educators, and will be available to speak with media.
