Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock honored six 2020-21 state champion teams and student-athletes from Denver Public Schools at a celebration Wednesday morning on the steps of the City and County of Denver building. Among the state champions honored at the event were the historic Far Northeast Warriors and Thomas Jefferson High School football teams, which each won state titles – the first in DPS in more than 30 years – at tournaments this spring.
“In the midst of all of our challenges, you gave us a tremendous ray of hope and reason to celebrate,” said Mayor Hancock. “And you showed us all what resilience, confidence, teamwork, and power really, really means. Congrats to you all, we’re very proud.”
