DDES third graders studied access to education locally and around the world for their fall expedition. Through a pen pal relationship locally, they realized even peers here in some Denver Public Schools didn’t have access to the same classroom materials. They wrote speeches based on text evidence and delivered them with poise and passion all over Denver speaking in many workplaces of families and community members. They aimed to raise $1000 to buy classroom books. Instead, in four days they raised $7000! Then they walked to the Tattered Cover Book Store and purchased books, today off to the The Craftsman & Apprentice to make homemade wrapping to deliver the books. In addition, the third grade teachers will deliver gift certificates for The Bookies Bookstore and Target that will amount to 10 times the deserving classrooms’ annual budget! We are pretty proud of this work, our students, teachers, and community. A strong example of the power of ELeducation.
