Congratulations Summer 2020 Launch Interns!

Congrats to all of our Launch interns

Congratulations to our Summer 2020 Launch Interns!  Over 100 Denver Public Schools (DPS) high school students participated in the first-ever virtual Career and College Success (CCS) Launch Internship Program this summer.

After completing an online job readiness training, interns applied skills from their Career and Technical Education classes at more than 40 businesses and nonprofits in and around Denver. Because this summer’s Launch internships are entirely remote, DPS interns worked with organizations as far away as Austin, TX and Kansas City, MO.

Students reported very positive experiences during their 100-hour remote internships. “I joined this internship to see what being a data analyst would be like and working with NFP shows that a lot. It’s not easy sitting on a computer but especially in this non profit organization it’s a great feeling to help people/clients,” says Kevin B., who is interning with Nurse Family Partnerships.

Many internship supervisors also enjoyed the virtual experience, and saw their interns overcome similar challenges to the ones they face when working during the pandemic. “Jess…showed problem-solving skills when it came to overcoming some technical obstacles. Like, when a Zoom interview didn’t record the audio, she was able to come up with the solution of splicing her portion of the interview and her interviewee into one, which is a perfect and brilliant solution to an unexpected tech issue, which we face often in this industry,” says Dave Ashton from KGNU Radio.

In addition to the summer program, Launch also runs internship programs during the fall and winter. Our goal for the 2020-2021 CCS Launch Internship program is to place 550 students in successful internships.
