Gain access to a DPS school or campus

Denver Public Schools is committed to cultivating and maintaining an open and productive relationship with the news media. The district recognizes that the media are a vital source of information about the Denver Public Schools for families and the community.

The district also recognizes the importance of ensuring the safety and privacy of students, staff and families. District officials, schools and staff must cooperate with the news media to the extent required and appropriate by law, while ensuring that media coverage does not interfere with teaching and learning.

The Communications Office is charged with media relations and will support all schools and departments with media interactions.

Media requests

It is Denver Public Schools’ policy for all news media inquiries regarding the district, departments or schools to be referred to the Communications Team to ensure the most timely and accurate response. Please call 720-448-3751.

How to request access to a school?

The Communications Office will take all media requests for access to a school during normal school hours. Reporters can contact director of Media Relations at will_jones@dpsk12.org or 720-448-3751. All media inquiries can also be directed to the Communications Office main line at 720-423-3414.

The Communications Office and the school will determine if the request for access is appropriate. The district and its schools will cooperate with the news media to the extent required and appropriate by law, while ensuring that media coverage does not interfere with teaching and learning.

All reporters are required to check-in with the main school office, wear a “guest pass” at all times, be escorted by a representative of the school at all times, and respect/abide by all district policies and local and state laws concerning the use of minors in news and broadcasting.

After-school events in designated school areas that are otherwise open to the general public are also open to the media and do not require prior arrangements. Events during normal school hours must be arranged through the Communications Office.

Although every effort is made to accommodate all media requests, please note that each request will take time in order to get appropriate approvals.

Taking pictures of students?
