On Saturday September 8, Superintendent Tom Boasberg was honored by the Colorado Black Roundtable for his decade of service to Denver Public Schools. Former Board of Education Member Nate Easley, who also led the Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF), highlighted the doubling of African American and Latino graduates during Superintendent Boasberg’s tenure. He added that because of Tom’s personal commitment DSF and seeing that students get to and through college, Denver now has 600 more African American college graduates than it did a decade ago.

A group of people standing and presenting an award. The Roundtable also featured a panel discussion led by Dr. Sharon Bailey, author of the Bailey Report and program manager for diversity, equity and inclusion at DPS. Topics included an update from Culture Equity and Leadership Chief Allen Smith on the work of the African American Equity Task Force, and what families can do to ensure their children are poised for success as DPS implements new state-mandated requirements for graduation. One of the ways students can demonstrate competency is through our Capstone Portfolio, which collects examples of a student’s best work over their high school experience.
