School Weather Closures
If Denver Public Schools closes due to bad weather or other emergencies, closures are announced by 5 a.m. on the district's main phone line at 720-423-3200 and on the DPS website at www.dpsk12.org. Only exceptions to normal school schedules are announced.
Weather-related schedule changes also are provided to local television and radio stations. Occasionally, media misreport information. We recommend that you verify the official closure status through the district's main phone line or website.
The decision to close schools is not made easily. With approximately 73,000 students and 13,000 employees, the decision involves safety for students, parents and employees. District staff reviews forecasts from local and national weather services and consults with road crews beginning at midnight if a storm is threatening. In addition, a team of people drive during the night to assess road conditions using their everyday vehicles or school buses.
Ultimately, we recognize and respect the decisions of parents in having the final say regarding the safety of their children. If you choose to keep your child home, please call your school to let the staff know.
