Barnum Elementary is a widely diverse urban school located in the Barnum neighborhood in west Denver. Presently enrolled are 480 students, mostly from the Barnum neighborhood. Educational services are offered for students Early Childhood (ECE) through 5th grade in a self-contained setting. Included in these services are English Language Acquisition (ELA), Technology, Library Media,Art, Physical Education, Music, Special Education (mild, moderate), Challenge, Title I Reading, Title I Math and Conflict Resolution Intervention. Barnum has received a grant from the Carmel Hill Fund to implement the Accelerated Reader, STAR Reading Assessment Test, Star Earl Literacy for Emergent Readers and English in a Flash computerized guided independent reading and vocabulary programs.
Our school-wide discipline program, math curriculum (Every Day Math), District Literacy Initiative and Reading 1st program provide a systematic, consistent and concise education for children. At Barnum we address and meet the individual needs of our students by multi-age, flexible grouping and regrouping of students according to reading levels and English language proficiency levels.
