Who is Denver Kids, Inc. (DKI)?

A not-for-profit organization, founded in 1993, which provides long- term preventive counseling to boys and girls who are students in the Denver Public Schools, and are identified by school personnel as being at risk and needing support and guidance beyond that which is provided in school.

Each youngster is guided by a Denver Kids, Inc. counselor, an employee of Denver Public Schools, who provides one-to-one counseling to address a variety of needs for each youngster on an individual basis.

All Denver Boys and Denver Girls are matched on a one-to-one basis with a volunteer from the community who commits his or her time and energy to serve as a volunteer Friend for one year. The volunteer Friend receives training and guidance and serves as a positive adult role model in the youngster's life. Each year, volunteers contribute over 30,000 hours to Denver Kids, Inc.

Denver Kids, Inc. is a Denver Public Schools program sponsored, as well, by the Rotary Club of Denver, Rotary Associates, and the Zonta Club of Denver. The latter three organizations provide funding for program support services and provide Denver Kids, Inc. with representation from the community.
