Special Programs
Denver Kids, Inc., in addition to the one-to-one counseling program, coordinates special programs that effectively provide support to thousands of youngsters in Denver Public Schools.
The Teen Mother Education Project
The project involves the support and guidance which enables young women who are parents to complete their high school educations. A counselor provides one-to-one support and assistance in helping each young mother in her search for respect, identity, and her sense of self- worth. The comprehensive services provided by this program continually strive to help this at-risk group become self-sufficient and able to effectively parent their children. The program is funded by the Zonta Club of Denver, The Women's Foundation of Colorado, and receives various other corporate and foundation support.
The Family Support Project
The Family Support Project, a program of Denver Kids, Inc., is designed to give families the opportunity to learn to communicate with one another meaningfully and productively, and to encourage parent participation in every aspect of their children's lives. The project is structured to empower the single parent (98% female) through assistance in family management and development of personal and social skills which will, in time, enable them to more effectively parent their children.
In its first two years of operation, The Family Support Project has been funded, in part, with funding from the City and County of Denver Safe city Program.
