State Representative Jerry Frangas and Denver City Councilman Rick Garcia To Speak At Lake Middle School
WHERE: Lake Middle School
Persuasive Writing in Government, Room 207
1820 Lowell Blvd. Denver, CO. 80204
WHEN: Thursday, December 20, 2007 / 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
DESCRIPTION: : During the month of December, Peter Grampp's 8th grade Language Arts classroom will be exploring a persuasive writing unit to teach the importance of this writing genre. As an I.B. Candidate school, Lake Middle School students are challenged to explore five different Areas of Interaction (AOI). Through the Community and Service AOI Approach, specifically Initiative and Action, Mr. Grampp is hoping to expand the way in which students look at issues important to them. Students will be required to write a persuasive letter to a person of influence that is responsible for making decisions that are important to their point of view.
As a component of this unit, State Representative Jerry Frangas and Denver City Councilman Rick Garcia will be spending time with our students in order to give a unique insight into the importance of expressing their opinion to persuade others. Councilman Garcia will be supporting morning classes while Representative Frangas will be supporting afternoon classes. Our ultimate goal is to provide the students with insight into how citizens can affect local governing issues through persuasive writing.
