October 28, 1999 For Immediate Release EAST HIGH DOMINATES AT SPEECH MEET IN HOUSTONShouts of joy rang out as the East High School speech team stepped off the plane at Denver International Airport on Sunday, October 24. The East speech team, led by coach Marc Mullette, won second place at the speech meet in Houston, October 21 through the 24th. Thirty students participated in various categories, including poetry, drama, humorous interpretation, duet acting and debate. The team won second in team participation, second in debate and first, second and third places in duet acting (two actors acting together) and poetry. The top three winners of the poetry competition were Anna Steed, Shahada Abdal-Rahman and Joi Phillips. The top three winners of the duet acting competition were Liz Andrews and Jennifer Johnson; Anna Steed and Shahada Abdal-Rahman; and Anna Walters and Kwame Sperman. |
