SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST SCORES FOR 1998-1999 SCHOOL YEAR ADJUSTED
Scores from the Denver School of the Arts and P.S. 1 Charter School were inadvertently excluded when district-wide results for the Scholastic Aptitude Test were reported in August.
The Princeton, New Jersey-based Educational Testing Service did not include the information it returned to Denver Public Schools, according to David Lowry, Executive Director of Planning.
As a result, revised combined scores for Denver Public Schools decreased slightly for the 1998-1999 school year. The correct combined score is 1045 (it was reported as 1046 in August).
The changes also affect the individual portions of the test that make up the combined score. As a result, the district's verbal score on the SAT increased another point; the mathematics score decreased two points. The correct score on the verbal portion of the test is 532 (it was 531 in August) and the correct score on the mathematics portion of the test is 513 (it was 515).
The 43 students at the Denver School of the Arts who took the SAT scored above the district average on the verbal portion of the test (550) but below the district average on mathematics (483). Only four students at P.S.1 took the test.
The average combined score nationwide for the 1998-1999 school year was 1016. The Colorado average was 1076.
