July 14, 1999 For Immediate Release GREEN VALLEY RANCH COMMUNITY INVITED TO GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW SCHOOL WEDNESDAY, JULY 21 The Green Valley Ranch community in fast-growing far northeast Denver is invited to attend a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new school on Wednesday, July 21. The event will begin at 10 a.m. Members of the Denver Board of Education, interim superintendent Sharon Johnson, district officials and neighborhood leaders are all expected to join in marking the start of construction on the new elementary school. The new school is scheduled to open for the 2000-2001 school year. It will be the third school in Green Valley Ranch. The others are Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School (19535 E. 46th Ave.) and Marrama Elementary School (19100 E. 40th Ave.). The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the project site, south of 42nd Avenue and west of Kirk Street in Green Valley Ranch. The new elementary school is the first of many new schools being built with proceeds from the $305 million bond, approved by voters in 1998. The bond program was required to meet the surging student population. Since 1994-1995, the school district has grown from 62,771 to 68,893 students. During the 1999-2000 school year, an additional 1,000 students are also expected. |
