July 9, 1999 For Immediate Release SUPERINTENDENT FINALISTS PUBLIC FORUMS ARE WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, AND THURSDAY, JULY 15 Community members will have a chance to quiz finalists for the Superintendent position at two public forums this week to be hosted by the League of Women Voters of Denver. Parents, students, teachers, DPS staff and other interested citizens are invited to attend. The forums, to be held Wednesday, July 14, and Thursday, July 15, will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the First Floor Board Room, 900 Grant St. The Board will announce finalists for the position on Tuesday following a final review of applications. "The Board is very impressed with the diversity and caliber of the candidates, and I think the public will be as well," said Board President Sue Edwards. At the forums, each candidate will appear individually (on either Wednesday or Thursday) in the Board Room for about one hour. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit written questions, which will then be asked by the moderator. The forums will be televised on Channel 22 (TCI). In addition to the forums, community members are invited to provide input on the finalists. Comments must be received by the end of the day Monday, July 19. Comments can be delivered by one of four ways:
"The Board has a sincere desire to hear from the community regarding this important decision," said Edwards. "We believe a forum of this type will provide an excellent opportunity for input and will allow us to meet our goal of naming a new superintendent by July 30." |
