WEST HIGH SCHOOL SALUTES BLACK HISTORY MONTH

West High School will host a "Brotherhood Assembly" in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, February 18. The program will incorporate cultural aspects of African-American history , Hispanic-American history, Asian-American history and Native-American history.

The theme of the program will be set around defining what "Brotherhoodî is, and what it means. Each culture will demonstrate their contributions to American culture with entertainment. The African-American heritage will be represented through Gospel singing, African-American poetry, African-American dance and Jazz renditions. The Hispanic representation will be given by the West High Mexican Folkloric Dancers, who will perform several modern Latin dance numbers. West High Native-American students will present poems they have authored. Asian-American students will display readings with the use of the Chinese horoscope.

West's Celebration of Black History Month doesnít stop there -- throughout the month they will focus on a variety of activities dealing specifically with African-American contributions.
