Scopia Capital completes $400,000 grant to the Denver Public Schools Foundation
The Denver Public Schools' reform efforts continue to attract national attention and investments in the district's vision to become the best big-city school district in the country, as New York based investment manager Scopia Capital recently completed a two-year grant of $400,000 to the Denver Public Schools Foundation.
"We are excited to support Superintendent Bennet's vision for transforming the Denver Public Schools," explained Scopia Capital managing partner Jeremy Mindich. "He has challenged his community to believe that innovation, high expectations and capital sensibly deployed can make a difference in educational outcomes. We share the superintendent's confidence, despite the prevailing cynical attitude of skepticism towards school reform. The nation is watching to see whether Bennet can deliver on his ambitious plans, and we want to help give him the best possible chance of success."
Scopia Capital contributed $200,000 to the DPS Foundation last year as well to fund initiatives that support the district's reforms, including principal professional development.
"A gift of this magnitude is a vote of confidence in the reform efforts that we are undertaking here in Denver Public Schools," said Superintendent Michael Bennet. "This support from Scopia Capital will help us continue pursuing our efforts to ensure that every child in DPS gets a first-rate education. We believe that DPS can be a national leader in transforming the way that large, urban school districts succeed in educating their students."
Scopia Capital LLC is a New York based firm that provides investment management to institutional investors. The company was founded in 2001.
