Cowell Kids CAN Do It!

Denver, CO - Students at Cowell Elementary School in Denver far surpassed their efforts in the holiday can drive this year. The Student Council at Cowell set a goal of 750 cans (roughly one can per person in the school). The cans were collected in each classroom from the week of Thanksgiving to the week before holiday break. Students decided to donate the cans to the Sandos Christmas Basket Program. Tallies were kept weekly to see how the drive was progressing. The class with the most cans was to win a game party.

Student Council members kept on counting as the classrooms gathered their goods. The overall total of cans collected was 1,139! Student Council President Michael Dominguez greeted Derek Sandos at the door.

"The cans didn't all fit in the car," said Michael, "and they had to come back for a second trip."

The staff, students and community are proud of their contribution during the holidays. The Sandos Food Program provides food baskets to needy families in the northwest part of Denver each holiday.
