Asbury Elementary Recognized As High Performing School
Superintendent Michael Bennet released the following statement after Commissioner of Education Dwight Jones recognized Asbury Elementary School as a high performing school earlier today during the release of the latest 2007 statewide assessment results:
"We could not be prouder of our students, teachers, and principal at Asbury Elementary for their hard work and achievement.
"For three consecutive years, Asbury has seen incredible gains in reading and math. Fifth graders scored 80% proficient/advanced in reading and 3rd and 5th grade are also 80% proficient/advanced in math.
"The success at Asbury should give all of us in Denver a sense of what is possible.
"Although the 2007 CSAP scores showed DPS' performance to be largely unchanged, we did have some gains, particularly in math and writing, and some incredible success stories in several of our schools, like in the case of Asbury.
"I am confident the entire district is moving in the right direction and today's recognition is proof of our improvement.
