Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College Inaugurates National Junior Honor Society Chapter
Martin Luther King, Jr. High School's Early College inducted ten freshmen students into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on Tuesday, May 8th, during a luncheon at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. NJHS is an organization that recognizes and encourages five key qualities: scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character. NJHS membership is often regarded as a valid indicator that the student will succeed in life and particularly in studies at the post-secondary level.
The induction ceremony was supervised by high school faculty since this was the first of its kind for the Early College. In subsequent years, students who are members of NJHS will officiate. The luncheon was sponsored by the Foundation for Educational Excellence and the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. Principal Michael Gaither accepted the new NJHS Charter on behalf of the students.
Principal Gaither commented, "I am so proud of these students' accomplishments. They are the leaders of the Early College, and I can't wait to see them walk across the stage in 2010 as our first senior class."
The inducted students include: Kayla Fisher-Taylor, Jessica Galvan, Tony Hoang, Cherrelle Jackson, Shereen Johnson, Diana Johnson, Akricia Joseph, Sandy Nunez, Eduardo Parra, and Donterrius Potter-Phenix.
