800 Students Dance To Celebrate National Dance Week
Denver Public Schools, in conjunction with Premiere Arts Dance Company: Arts For ALL and the Mayor's office will be celebrating National Dance Week starting April 20-27, 2007. Three events will be offered to celebrate the role of dance in our culture and our educational system. All of the events are FREE and open to the public.
The off performance of National Dance Week will be on Friday, April 20, 2007 with over 75 students performing on the steps of the City/County Building at 12:30pm (lunch hour). Then, four days of master classes will be taught at Colorado Ballet studios to students from 18 DPS schools. The week will end with a final performance at South High School including groups from DPS schools and other private studios and schools. Over the course of the week, 800 students will dance in the celebrations and events.
KICK OFF PERFORMANCE: E PLURIBUS UNUM
April 20, 2007 - 12:30 p.m. City/County Building 14th & Bannock
More than 75 students will meet and perform dances from several dance genres and cultures. The lunch time performance will last approximately 30-45 minutes and feature students from several Denver Public Schools. A representative from the Mayor's office will be in attendance to make a proclamation to kick off the event. This performance is the first event in a full week of activities for children of all ages and backgrounds to come together, and dance together.
MASTER CLASSES AT COLORADO BALLET
April 23-26, 2007 - 9:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m Colorado Ballet Studios 12th & Lincoln
Starting April 23, students from 18 DPS schools will attend 4 full days of dance classes, taught by local artists and professionals. Students will experience a range of styles and challenges by learning to salsa, swing, square dance and clog. Other dance forms being taught will be African, hip hop, jazz and modern dance. The classes will start at 9:30am and last until 1:45 each day. The classes will take place at Colorado Ballet studios at 12th and Lincoln in downtown Denver.
FINAL PERFORMANCE AT SOUTH HIGH
April 27, 2007 7:00 p.m. South High School auditorium
The final event of National Dance Week will be a performance, open to all, at South High. Come witness the choreographic works from DPS schools, private schools and studios and any other interested participants.
